Hello all I am a brand new dakota owner, mine is a 2008. Recently the 7 blade plug for camper hookup has not worked. Also a new camper owner. My uncle determined the item in the included picture was faulty. So we snipped it an bypassed it. Now the camper lights stay on with no turn signal. Previously with the item still attached normally the 7 blade connector was not powering the camper lights. Any idea what this is and where I can find one? The people at auto zone were idiots and had no clue what it was.
Looks like a 7 pin to 4 pin converter. What is your trailer connector? Do you have a brake controller?
The camper has a 7 blade connector. I bought a break controller but I was told by my uncle that unless we had the 7 blade receiver working on my truck that the controller system would not work. So we bypassed the image above to see if the 7 blade would work and it did. I think I am going to get a 4 way flat to 7 blade converter and pop that into my 4 way just to get my turn signal and break lights working properly on the trailer instead of just sitting at on at all times. If that makes sense.

That is a converter to translate the brake and turn signals on your truck, into the brake/turn signals on your trailer. When you have dual element brake/turn signal bulbs, it will work directly. On vehicles with separate brake and turn signal bulbs (amber turn signals in back) it lets the brake light work unless the turn signals are flashing,in which case the dual element bulb will flash.
Trace the wires on the truck. This may go to a splice connector plugged into the truck wiring harness. You may be able to unplug the old wiring adaptor and plug a new one in. Something like this;
I would trace the wiring to find the fault so that your 7-pin connector works correctly. If you have a trailer with brakes, then you want to use the 7-pin connector so that you can use all of the lights and the brakes.
My '06 came with a Mopar add-on tow harness that was made for a different year model and grounded the hot wire for the backup lamps. I eventually scrapped it and used an adapter harness that plugged into the taillight harnesses. For brakes I ran the wire from my brake controller to the 7-pin plug separately.
