Asd issue
A few months back I drove my truck to work. Drove her on lunch break, back to work, home from work, stopped at the store and drove her out of the parking lot. When I pulled out into traffic and started going, my truck just shut off out of no where.... It didn't stutter or putt out just shut-off. The radio and lights still worked but she wouldn't turn over or even try to. I replaced the battery and got it started but only ran for a quick min and shut off again. When it did it blew 3 fuses. I replaced them it did it again. I switched out a fuel injector harnesses and a coil harness that was tore up and got it running for a min or two, and again it blew a fuse. But this time just one, the ASD fuse. Everytime I change out the ASD fuse and start her it blows the fuse. I ran the codes and they are popping for PCM... Can anyone please tell me why it keeps blowing the ASD fuse and won't start?
The ASD relay provides the 12V+ to the ignition coils, fuel injectors, O2 sensor heaters and knock sensors. The PCM controls those devices by opening and closing the ground circuit. The PCM has an ASD sense circuit, so if the fuse is blown and there's no power, the PCM will sense a fault and set a code. I had problems with the flywheel position sensor and it would open the ASD relay and shut the truck off, but it never blew the ASD fuse. If it's blowing fuses, something on the output circuit is shorted to ground. It could be any one of the listed devices, or even the harness. You could disconnect all those things and see if it still blows a fuse. If not, you can test the items with a multimeter, or just hook them up one at a time until it blows a fuse. The power to the ASD only stays on for about 2 seconds after you turn the key to on, so you'd have to cycle the key once for each device.
