My 2006 Dak 2wd with 3.7 has no reverse but runs fine in all forward gears. My question is, do I have the 42re tranny and is there a band adjustment for reverse gear ?

 

i had that happen with mine. the reverse band clutch was worn/burned needing to be replaced. local transmission shop did it for $1200 CAD. i was still under warranty and i had terrible customer service from the dealership. after being told that i MUST have abused my truck causing this taking it out of warranty.

That was when i sold my truck. not because of hte truck, but because of hte bad customer service from the dealer, and when i called dodge directly to complain and try to get something in compensation for the bad custome rservice i was basically ignored.

 

Though it may be different depending on year an tranny I lost reverse an found the overdrive needed replacing,an put in a used- an no problem after change out an readjusting bands,replaced sensors . Pulled the pan an found some busted ring pieces .That huge accumulator spring at valve body.. see pic .. breaks a lot on dakotas ,an mine was in 3 pieces. A rebuild kit is good to put in too..
pull the pan an take a look.
