Default Can a large evap leak cause starting issues?

I first started noticing that I couldn't fill up my gas tank without it tripping the pump. I did some research and it suggested it was the canister filter. That issue seems to have gone away. Now, I have a code for large evap leak and the gas cap light is on. I've noticed some starting issues when the engine is cold. It will just crank for longer than it should. It will then sputter a little and then seem to run fine. Do you think these two issues are related?
