Default AC compressor

I have a question about the ac compressor on a 2006 Dakota 4.7L. Is it normal for the ac compressor to come on periodically while using the heater/defroster WITHOUT having the ac button pressed. I flushed my radiator and while purging I had the heat on high and was blurping the system when I noticed the ac compressor clutch pull in for maybe a minute and then release and repeat a few times while purging. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes. It cycles automatically to control cabin humidity.

Using the defroster causes the A/C to turn on to control the humidity. Switching it to the defroster turns on the A/C. Heat through the normal vents won't turn on the A/C.
