ABS and wheel speed
I own a 08 Dakota, 4Dr, 4X4, v6. My ABS light comes on normally within about 10 miles of driving. Every once in a while, the lightning bolt comes on and I must back off gas and then the lightning bolt goes out and I can hit the gas. I assume that is because the ABS isn't working correctly. That lightning bolt isn't often but it is annoying. I wanted to look into the ABS issue but notice I have one wheel speed sensor on left front and nothing on the right side. Is this a normal setup for ABS and my Dakota? I looked in and under right fender well and see no terminal to connect too. Thought I'd be smart and pull a wiring diagram and can't find anything. I was wanting to get the colors and track the harness. I bought a Haynes manual that was a total joke. They don't even go into ABS at all and makes one reference, DON'T TOUCH! I don't want to buy parts to throw at this and thought I could manage to work through the issue. Now I know I can't and why I'm here asking for help. I even went to Dodge Dealership sites trying to uncover parts and had no luck. Would anyone tell me if the Dakota has just the one front speed sensor? And I checked the rear and looks to me like the speed sensor is in the axel and not at the wheel corners. This has front disc and rear drum.

Your truck does have only one sensor up front, 4 wheel ABS was optional. Download the 2005 Dodge Dakota Factory Service Manual here, it's a free download. Not much changed over the years for the Dakota, so most of the information will cover up to the 2011 models. There are plenty of wiring diagrams in the FSM.
The best thing to do is hook up an advanced code reader (one that reads and clears ABS/SRS codes) and see what the cause of the ABS light is.
Any sensor or resistor that you ever need, use only Mopar brand, aftermarket sensors don't play well with our electronics.
The ABS wheel Sensor kit for the front is part #05142770aa.

Things are getting back to normal around here after a great holiday. Hope this is true for all of you out there. I need to locate a diagnostic machine for my Dakota. Wanted to know if this pick is good enough. It kind of sounds like it is similar to Fords Forscan but not quite free. What I landed on was a pc software called Appcar DiagFCA. Seems to have all the testing and valve sensor tests. It is licensed by your VIN from what I gather. I get the most amount of bidirectional testing as possible and is about $30 per VIN.I already have the right ELM to use with Ford's Forscan so I thought this is the greatest deal I'll find for all the features it can do and the price too. Am I right or is there something even better? I'm asking because I haven't found many youtube videos that cover this software.
