My '05 Dakota anti-theft flashers will not turn off.
When I first purchased my 05 Dakota, the key fob and interior lights did not work.
Hit a pothole a year back, Key fob and interior lights started working again.
About 6 months ago, my hazards and anti-theft light would come on when entering the truck. I could disable them by either pressing unlock on the key fob, or unlocking the truck with the key in the door.
Not long ago, the key fob stopped working (AGAIN).. Now I have to unplug the battery every time I drive the truck, or the hazards kill the battery.
Mechanic wants to swap the ignition cylinder and key for $2,000, stating "We will start there, and then see if anything else needs to be swapped". So we start by handing over $2,000 and THEN see if there's MORE to be done, Interesting. Had to pay a $220 Diagnostic fee just to come to that conclusion.
I would like to find someone who has experienced issues with the key fob and anti-theft system in the 05 Dakota. Any personal insight would be helpful, I'm at a loss.

I wish it were that simple. Maybe it has to do with my area (Maryland). A shop wanted to charge my girl $250 to change a belt in her mustang. Took me $30 and 5 minutes.
I remember the good ole days in Georgia, where a shop charged $100 for diagnostic, and would wave that entire charge if you went through with the repair. Maryland is just different. a diagnostic is $200, straight forward. This is going through a dealer.
