Chrysler Reman Motor FIne Metal in Oil
So I dropped in a Chrysler 4.7L remanufactured motor into my '08 Dakota this past fall.. Ended up running it about 800 miles before the first oil change. Looking in the oil I noticed some really fine metal that I could pull out with a magnet. After changing the oil, I then started to notice a noise coming from the passenger front of the motor when tapping the accelerator. Sounded like a timing chain rattle. So I just finished pulling the timing cover and removing the tensioners and found metal shaving blocking the little screes on the passenger side tensioner.
I have ordered new tensioners for both sides just in case some got into them and may cause some binding down the road.Makes sense though as to why it ran good then developed the chain slap over time as the little screen eventually clooged up with metal shavings and the tensioner was not longer getting oil pressure to keep the chain tight.
Should I be worrying that something is eating itself up inside this new motor, or is it poor quality control when the motor went through the reman process?
