Default Radio Quetions

I was not able to find the information on this site nor in the shop manual or the chilton manual. Maybe i am just looking at it wrong. But i have a 2006 dodge dakota Laramie crew cab and it has the factory radio in it. On the back of the unit is 2 plugs. I know the one is called C1 and i have found the pin out for that, but i am not finding the other one. I thought they might call it C2 but did not find that.

I am looking to put an after market radio in the truck and am looking for the wires that would be key on and dash lights

I have found 2 that are B+ and live all the time, i am hoping that this is not controlled from the can bus being there is a can set of wires going to it.

Hopefully the wires i am looking for are in the second plug on the radio

Ok lets start with old school, back in the day cars had 3 wires to the radio, one was B+, one was ACC/RUN and the other was instrument lights. B+ live all the time, RUN/ACC on when in ACC or Run, and instrument lights when the dash lights were on.

This does not seem to be the case on my 2006 dodge dakota, there are 2 power wires to the one plug both labeled B+ and live all the time, there are wires marked CAN+ and CAN-

The factory radio in the truck i am looking to replace, so here are the list of questions:

Does the factory radio use CAN in order to let it know when it can power on?

Does the factory radio use CAN in order to let it know when to turn on the instrument lights?

Am I correct in deciphering the shop manual that the two wires that come to the plug C1 on the radio are B+ and powered all the time?

What did others on the forum do when they replaced their factory radio with an aftermarket?

I am thinking for the instrument or dash lights for the radio i can tap into the wire used for the climate control

And for the power when in run/acc i am thinking maybe the cigarette lighter

But would like to know what others have done when they successfully put an aftermarket radio in their dodge truck

oh and there is a small 10 pin plug beside the plug that brings the power, ground and speakers and i cant seem to find pin outs and what that plug is used for

Here is more question about installing aftermarket radio in 2006 dodge dakota. So i have the 2005 service manual from this site. Compared it to chilton seems same. So took aftermarket radio connect up power and ground and on 22 pin plug connected + and - for 2 of the speakers. Powered unit on, unit powers, tuned to a known station, no audio. Checked settings for fade and such played with volume nope got nothing. Ive attached pics of the plug the odd thing is the 4 pins that should be front speakers arent even in the plug. The rear are. But nothing seems to work makes me think there might be an amp on passenger kick plate. Dont know yet need more time and some expert advise
