New guy, Got a Dakota
Hey everyone.
I’ve always liked the Dakota’s and finally got one. It’s 2005 Quad cab 2wd V8 and only 70k miles. I really like it and looking forward to finding what mods and upgrades members are doing.
I would like to upgrade the stock stereo, any power and/or mpg gain mods I can find. Or any other discoveries.
Thanks,
Kenny

Welcome
Assuming its the 4.7? I think the 2005 version was about maxed out on that platform. Possibly 09+ cams and intake might gain you some, don't remember if the 4.7 had 2 plug heads at the end, they might have a little increase, if you can run em.
I had an 06 4.7 Flex Laramie 4 door. That was a fun little pickup to have, other then the e-85 did not want to start in the cold winter, but I hit alot of dead ends looking for increased power. There wasn't aftermarket then and there's less now. Never was a platform people wanted to build I guess. I think there were custom grind cams off stock profiles in the day, might still find em laying around. Or a shop willing to do a custom grind yet. I've head two 4.7s my current 1500 was a fun little project doing timing chains and such, but its got a burning oil problem. I think is down to the rings. I've got it going across the auction block. If it no sales I might pull it and rebuild this winter.
Number one thing I can say is do not get it hot, you blow a hose, loose a water pump, shut it down. They love to drop valve seats if over heated.
