Default 2006 Solenoid pack replacement

A couple months ago my son's truck was throwing a bunch of codes pointing to the transmission solenoid pack being bad. It would go into limp mode and was ******* it. My mechanic buddy (Honda certified mechanic) assessed the problem and did the repair. A couple days after the repair the CEL came back on with a few codes, but no performance problems. After a couple days they cleared out, and the assumption was it was part of the relearn procedure. Have had no problems since...until yesterday. The CEL came back on with limp mode. My son did a scan with a basic ODB scanner and no actual code came up. He turned it off for a bit, went back out and while the CEL was still on, the performance was back to normal. Know what could be going on?

For further information, today he had no issues and no CEL. So strange.
