Default 5.7 Hemi Swap

I have an 08 Dakota with a blown 4.7 in it. Im having a hard time finding another 4.7 for it, so im considering doing a 5.7 Hemi swap, since the first Gen Hemis use the same transmission. Has anyone ever done this? If so, what all is involved in the process? If I have a running doner truck is it as simple as pulling the engine, ecm, and harness, and mounting it up? Im assuming it may need different motor mounts too. If anyone has any experience on this, id greatly appreciate some info.

sorry i don't have a solid answer, youll run into issues with sensor readings and all that, probably different tone wheels, overhead cam ect ect. might be some custom tuning options? 4.7 to 5.7 swap in a dakota i dont think will be as simple as the 1500 ram truck since the 1500 actually had a factory hemi option, parts exist. Looks like holley make a swap kit, i only see up to 04 though

I have no doubt it can be done and probably has been many times over, the big factors aside from time and money will be how technical you are, and how much you want it to run/look like factory, you could hack in a 5.7 pcm and wiring harness, give it key power and drive it, things like dash gauges and cruise probably wont work, hvac probably only get heat, maybe a/c with some hotwire work. Its all dodge so you would hope the communication logic could interchange, but its also dodge.....and they like to make things not play together

Read here. It’s been done. Not cheap or easy.

If you are anywhere near alberta, I have a 4.7 sitting in an 08 in the back of a barn. It runs fine, just throws some codes as the cats are missing.

Otherwise search row52.com for a pick-n-pull near you with dakotas in stock. they list the vin of each vehicle, so you can go through the dodge site to search for a build sheet of each one.
