i was thinking about getting a dakota crew cab 4x4 with v8 and 6 speed manual tranny. does anyone here have the 6 speed and how do you like it? does it shift smooth and hows the gearing? also what kind of rpms is it putting out in 6th gear at highway speeds? thanks for any help.

 

I ordered a 6-speed on Jan 12th. My expected delivery date is Feb. 21, so when I get it, I'll for sure tell you about my impressions.

 

i have a 6speed quad cab v8 stock and i love it. It shifts smooth and when you jump on it it really kicks. lots of power in six gear on the highway it's doing 2000 at 60mph. im planning on doing a custom exaust and cold air intake maby a chip. i'll get back with you.

 

what kinda gas mileage you get at 60mph?

well when i reset the pc wile dirving its telling me about 27-29mpg but ive been averging about 17.5 on a tank and getting about 330miles befor the gas light comes on.

 

Is it just my truck, or is the transmission kinda stiff at first? Like, downshifting from 6-5, 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, are all fine and smooth, but like 2-1 is kinda really stiff, and jumpy.

Also, I stalled at a stop light today, and it has been kind of rough since then... is this normal...

*This is my first owned manual tranny vehicle, drove many others, but they were fwd cars.... lol*

You're NOT supposed to downshift from 2nd gear to 1st gear

Take off only in 1st gear....that's ALL you use it for

You can even take off in 2nd gear if you want. Avoid downshifting too when breaking in the engine as well since you DON'T want to over rev it....which could happen accidentally.


Another hint to save your clutch....when sitting at lights, don't sit there with your foot on the clutch......leave it in neutral & foot off the clutch....then when the light goes green, throw it into 1st & take off
(it'll save your throwout bearing from going bad on you)

 

Yes thats what I meant.... like when I get to a stop light I'm in second gear.

But when I shift it into first to get going thats when I have that rough shift, and I misworded what I meant when I said its jumpy. I meant once its in first I'll let the clutch out til it grabs give it some gas, and it'll be smooth then when I hit about 1500 - 2000 rpms, it'll start like choking and get jumpy.

I haven't really gone high on the RPM's yet. I have once or twice but the owner's manual said a few rapid accelerations during break in are required.
