Just purchased TRX4 Dakota H.O.
I Just bought a 2006 TRX4 Dakota and am quit fond of it...I traded in a 1999 Dakota 4x4 5.2. It is Black with leather, tow package, 6 changer cd, Quad Cab,1 inch extra ride height, TRX wheels, which are awesome. The H.O. engine is decent , perhaps not as stout as I hoped. But I was used to a 5.2 with a manual 5 speed...so the auto trans has a different torque feel. I hope I have the 3.92 rear but I cant find the info on it.(the sticker in the glove box was missing) Anyway I really like this truck and will post pics as soon as it stops raining here so I can get some good shots. Is it common for the 4x4's to feel less torqe than normal drive for a auto trans? Will get pics soon!........

ORIGINAL: PEPPERHEAD
Congrats on the new truck bearkat. Probably feels sluggish do to it being an automatic and the fact it weighs a wee bit more than your "99" did. Believe these truck weigh out at around 6,500lbs.

You should have the 3.92 gear in the rear end
When you build a truck on the Dodge.com website and select the 4.7 HO motor.....it automatically configures it with a 5 speed automatic tranny & the 3.92 rear end......so you can't get it any other way with the 4.7 HO.
If you really really wanna know...just give your VIN number to the guys at the parts counter of your dealer and they can tell you for sure.
And yeah I test drove a 4.7 HO 4x4 (before I got my truck) and wasn't that impressed either. 4x4 is gonna slow it down a little and the fact that it's a Quad Cab and these newer body styles weigh more doesn't help either.
You can run 87 octane safely, but it won't make as much power. If you wanna feel the "full force" of the HO motor, you gotta run premium fuel.

Hey thanks deranged about the tip for the sticker on axle...its a 3.92. One thing I've noticed about this H.O. motor is at about 4900 RPM this thing takes off...feels like a whole new gear...just gets to the extra power band they built into it...and goes to about 5800 and the tranny changes gear. I'm gonna get a high flow cat converter see if it helps a little in torqe. It helped my 99 Dakota 5.2.
