06 4.7L HO engine noise
this has been happening since about day one. I have no idea if it is restricted to my engine, just the HO, or the newer 4.7's. My 02 4.7 never made this noise.
When it is started up after prolonged sitting (could be just a few hours), about 15-20 secs after it is running, a tapping/clacking sound comes from the engine. It appears to be from the passenger side as with the hood closed it is easiest to hear it from the front passenger side wheel well, although it is clearly heard from just standing outside the truck. Even from in the cab. I also describe it as a mild diesel engine sound. After no more than 5 minutes, the sound is gone and as long as the engine is warm there is no sound. I have some .wmv files of the sound but I can't seem to post them here.
It is presently at the dealer for a second time about this noise (first time they couldn't hear it, go figure) They've heard it now but have no idea what it could be. I attribute it too either a lifter tap or something metal that when it is cold has too much movement and once it warms up and expands it then is OK.
I am not really looking for ideas of what it could be unless you are a Dodge mechanic but rather if anyone else has heard this out of their HO or any other newer 4.7L. Thanks all
