Default Rear Swap possible?

So a friend and I have been talking, I was talking about doing a rear disc conversion for braking. And instead of doing all that work he asked me what vehicle from Daim/Chry would match up similarly with the Dakota, the first that came to mind was the new Durango. Now that vehicle has rear discs, and he suggested just swappin the rear ends out. I'm not too sure what he meant, but sounded like a good idea. The kid knows his ****, but isn't too familiar with Dodge. He's a huge Chevy fan. Oh well.

Does anyone know what I am talking about? And if so, if I found say a totalled 05+ Durango, would it be possible to switch the rear ends out?

Thanks all.

The Durango has a wider track than the Dakota (about 3" IIRC). I'm not sure it'd work too well.

might not be a good idea. durangos set up alittle diff. then ours. also is his truck 2 or 4 wheel if 4 wheel you might want to check gears before pulling rear ends out of other vech. give ssbc a call they have every type of disc brake conversion. if not build your own. probably run ya some coin with braided hoses and fitting

stainless steel brake conversion

get the calipers and brackets (also the parking brake ***) from a 2002-present 1500 ram, you will need either new axles(moser can make them..about 250.00 a pair) or have the ram ones cut and resplined.....but as i remember reading somewere , the dakota axle shafts will/should work with the ram brakes...

Hey Rory, thanks for that info, but could you take a look into more for me? I am REALLY planning on doing this soon.... I'm gonna eventually need better braking if I end up going the route I wanna go. :-)

Thanks buddy!

Your other option could be to find a rear end from a 2004 Dakota.....I know that they came with disc brakes

2003 might have too, but I definitely know that my 2004 had the rear disc brakes on them.......and the rear end might still be the same...so that might be a simpler swap for you

DO'OH!!!!!

Totally forgot about that!
Well.....you'd just have to have two different sets of wheels in the front & rear then....lol...just kidding

Maybe you could just get the rear disc brake hardware off an '04 Dakota????

It seems like the best route for this is to go with an 02-up ram. they have 4 whell disc brakes and the 5x5.5 bolt pattern. not sure what else this all entails cause im no mr. goodwrench. anybody know what else a drum to disc conversion takes? any checklists out there?
