Default R/T?

Is dodge planning on making an R/T model for the Dak? If so, are they going to use a different engine like they did with the 5.9? Also, whats the difference between the HO and the regular 4.7? I've got a 2005 4.7 before they had the HO availible. A few extra horses with factory parts sure would be nice!

Dodge does have an R/T for the 3rd Gen Dakota....but its basically a sticker package. It comes with a non-functional hood scoop'd hood, some stickers, and a few other things.....plus the H.O. 4.7L V8....

Honestly, it's not worth a crap......and relatively speaking....you could get an SLT with basically the same options and a better resale value....

Unfortunately, Dodge didnt learn the lesson of the 2nd Gen R/T, that was super popular......

Haha you're probably right that it's a mistake. Since I've gotten mine, I've noticed Daks popping up everywhere. I've yet to see one of these elusive beasts yet. Maybe one day...

Porter, you really should do a search on the subject, it has been talked about to death. DevilsReject's synopsis is pretty much on the mark though.

Yeah do a search for more info, but basically....

The old R/T's were Reg. or Club Cab, 2wd, 17" wheels with beefy tires, 3.92 axle with posi, lowered, different exhaust with a polished tip, all painted body & wheel flares, and with the 5.9 V-8 & Automatic tranny

The new one.....it's available in 2 or 4 wheel, in Club or Quad Cab, comes with the 4.7 HO & auto tranny, 3.92 axle, blacked out headlights, painted grille & bumpers, non-functional hood scoop, chrome exhaust tip, 17" chrome wheels, R/T gauge cluster, R/T embroidered headrest, & R/T stickers

If anything.....go with the NiteRunner version....it's a all blacked out version and A LOT nicer

I saw one yesterday here in Phoenix. It had all of the options that were listed here. It also had a rear spoiler just like that of the SRT 10 Ram. It looked o.k. , I guess. But I gotta say I am quite happy with the SLT 4x4 I got last year. Way better truck than my '01 Sport 4x4. Like yours it was pre H.O. availability. I think it was built in March. Yeah the extra ponies would be nice, but again I very pleased with what I got for the money.

To actually get the extra ponies out of the H.O. motor, you gotta run Premium fuel!

So in addition to getting crappy gas mileage (in this truck), you gotta put a lot of expensive gas in it to utilize the H.O.

When I was at the dealer a couple weeks ago I asked a guy at the parts desk why no 5.7 in the Dak R/T. He said that they didn't make the front end beefy enough to handle the extra weight of the engine. Besides all the extra little goodies that come with em it would almost be worth the added monies. Considering you would get the MDS. Sure would help making filling up a little more palatable. As long as you don't have your foot in it all the time!

if you spend the 700.00 dollars for the h.o. cam kit and get them installed you would have the same motor that the 2005/2006 r/t has. just no one would know because you dont have the badging on the side of the truck. basically same stock motor with head work.
