Trailer towing
I bought the '05 specifically because of the 7,150 lb towing capacity. With a car-hauler trailer loaded with a '53 Chevy pickup, the truck performs quite well. It's not a Ram but it also doesn't have a drinking problem. Some time ago, in a conversation with a Chrysler engineer, I was told the max towing weight is the point where things start breaking. I always try to stay 1,000 lbs short of the max so I'm less likely to have problems. My normal mode of travel is towing a 4,000 trailer and about 300-400 lbs of tools in the bed. All city driving with that load. Never had a problem(yet). You have to expect poor mileage when you're towing a significant load.
I've got a 2005 4.7L SLT 4X4 with about 14,000 miles on it. Got a 1800 lb camper and pulls great. V8 is great going up hills on interstate. Plenty of pulling power. Anyone notice the minimal clearance between the wheel well and tires with even lower tongue weight? If I had any more additional tongue weight I'd have to get a helper spring. Other than that, I love this truck!
