Hey just curious... what years did the 5.9 Magnum come in the Dakota... and do you think the new V8s in the Dakotas are faster than the old ones??? what kinda 1/4 miles do they run????

 

last year they made the 360 in the dak was 2003. and know the older style dak is faster. you could do more engine work to the older 360 then the never 4.7.

 

do you know what kinda quarters the 5.9s would turn???

 

The 5.9L came in the Dakota from 98-03. The 2nd Gen Dakotas (97-2004) are the fastest of the Dakotas....especially with the 4.7L and 5.9L V8's.

The current 4.7L H.O. Dakota only has like 20hp more then the previous R/T w the 5.9L. However, the current Dakota is also heavier then its predecessor.


The quarter times on the R/T I believe was mid 15's....

 

That thing had a very hard time getting traction though. The current Dakota's are in the 16's and 17's.

 

The 360 cid was 235 hp or aabout the same as the 4.7 is now. The 318 cid was 230 hp in 1993 and 220 hp in 1995. The 4.7 HO that came out in very late 05 and now in 06 is 260 hp. So the 4.7 HO should be quicker. The older Dakotas where about in the same general weight as the current DAKs. The 360 that use to be a 340 had lots of available mods. If you thought the 4.7 is a gas hog the 360 was like a H1 Hummer. Feed me Now!
