Tow Hooks...
I just recieved my westin bull bar for my truck, but I need to remove the tow hooks to install it... HOW THE HELL DO I REMOVE THE DAMN LUG IN THE BACK OF THE HOOK? I got the first 2 off alright, but the 1 in the back, is rubber mounted or something. How do I remove it? is it counter threaded?
If you are referring to the vertical bolts in back through the frame member, see my post #3 on page 10 of the Dakota forum under "Westin mounting troubles" dated 6/20/06. Hope it helps. Personally, I had no problem with my bull bar install. Let me know how you make out.
Alright, thanks Ill try that. it isnt counter threaded right? The top of the rubber bushing, or tip of the bolt fits a large allen wrench, so Im able to keep the rubber from spinning. But when I try to turn it, it just feels like it doesnt wanna spin that way. Is there anything I have to be careful of? a set screw or something maybe? Thanks
No, not counter threaded and no set screw. Try letting the WD-40 penetrate for a bit (10-15 minutes) and try it again. The key is to keep that top round flange from turning while trying to loosen the bolt from underneath the truck. Good luck.
I didn't use a torque wrench but 60 ft.lbs. seems about right. Eyeball the rubber grommet under the flange and torque it up until the rubber overlap around the perimeter of the flange looks the same as before you loosened it up. But DO NOT over-compress the grommet.
