I was wondering if the leveling kit is going to extent your shocks by 2'. If it does, how will that affect the quality of ride? (even though it's spongey already)
And if it does extend the shocks by 2", could this open a door to solving the problem of unavailable aftermarket front shocks? ie. longer shock, different P/N

 

leveling kit is a 2" spacer between the spring and retainer on shock. you loose shock travel. hit a big enough bump and the spring coil binds

 

Hit a big enough bump and your shock will not extend long enough and will "top out". Don't know if that is the correct term.[:@]

 

I do believe that the scenario you are talking about can happen with or without the kit if the bump or hole is deep enough for the suspension to not be able to put the wheel at the bottom of the hole.

 

I think my question was misunderstood. Let me try again. If the spacers extend the shock 2", the right thing to do is replace the stock shock w/a shock that is 2" taller to provide proper piston travel. Since there currently are no aftermarket replacement shocks for the daks front, I was wondering if that 2" would make a difference in our ability to find an aftermarket that fits. Thoughts or opinions?

 

the spacers do not extend the shock at all. The three studs get replaced with longer bolts and the spacer sits on top of the shock and spring housing and then gets bolted onto the truck as one unit. that's the best answer I can give you. the shocks and springs are never touched in this conversion, except they get taken apart to remove the original three studs that bolt the coomplete system to the truck.

 

i think deer hunter is referring to the set of extended spring seats (the "leveling lift" on ebay). this works by setting a 2" circular block in between the srping and the lower control arm. this does in fact spread the shock an additional 2" because it spreads the lower and upper control arms away from each other. i put a set of spring spacers on my dak a long time ago for a quick, cheap, and easy way to level the front end. i raised the front 2" doing this and the ride was slightly stiffer (because the springs were somewhat compressed) but i never had an issue when i went full travel in the front. when installing the block, see what kind of room you have with your shock when you have reinstalled the spring. if you are ok, then you have nothing to worry about, as that is as far as the shock will travel anyway.
