of course its ok...what are you all talking about you dont trust the bumper? the biggest advertising on our truck was laid out on its towing capabilities....some the same as full size trucks (certain years)... there is no question that our trucks can handle towing

I just have always used class III or V hitches. I have seen too many bumpers break off that is why I dont trust them. I think the bumper limit on the dakota is something like 1300#.

I'm not doubting the towing capacity of our trucks,I just don't trust the strength of that bumper,I had the dealer install a reciever hitch and wiring hook up as part of the deal for my truck, little peace of mind when towing 18ft pontoon.Just had a great ideal for MTV,,,,,,Pimp My Pontoon! I be stylin up in da fiching hoooooos.Peace Out.

2004 qc....found a ball to fit my bumper...long narrow shank too small in diamater to fill the whole. now i inquired to my local dodge dealer...he says i can buy more or less a bushing from them to fill the space left in the whole for 30 bucks or something.......what i did was take a 2 inch steel pipe and cut it to put in there and used washers underneath to hold in place. this is a temp fix and i will be getting a towing universal hitch installed. i pull a tractor some and won't pull that heavy off a bumper. also, i had a buddy pull his boat with the same long shank 2 inch ball and it wiggled around till he lost his boat on the way home. thank god for saftey chains, but he's not a nice whole in his tailgate where the hitch popped up and rammed it.
