Gonna try Mobil 1 I think. The Amzoil buying method is just a pain in he ass. Join the club to buy our oil.......agree kinda sketchy to me.

I use Royal Purple for my engine, have had it in for 7,000 miles so far, will probably change it at 8,000 though.
I've been thinking of going to Royal Purple. Have you noticed any gains in it like everyone says? That would include mpg along with hp and tq.

Thanks,

Todd

I use Mobil 1 and do an oil change and tire rotation every 5k. That may be a little conserative but it's easy to remeber and you can buy Mobil 1 anywhere.

Here's some info I found on the internet about the Royal Purple syntec. Pretty interesting things are being said about it. Here's one from the RP.com FAQ site:
http://www.royalpurple.com/techa/faqsa.html

Here's another one from the Miata racing beat site. Talks about he increase of power from RP and why:

I thought it was interesting.

Yeah, ya gotta pay the $20 a year membership fee to be able to buy at "dealer cost" which is still way more than what I pay for Mobil-1 at Wally World. They send you a magazine once a month, but it's mostly full of stuff about their air filters and oil filters as well as pictures of thier "best" sales teams. They also sell vitamins and supplements so I have to wonder where their R&D money goes to......

I played thier game for about 2 years and have no complaints about their oil; however, over an extended period of time, Amsoil did get thicker as referenced in the link I mentioned above. I change my oil every 90 days, so I didn't have that problem.

RE: Synthetic oil

The only problem with Mobil 1 is that it isn't a true synthetic oil, but rather a Group 3 Petroleum oil. Actually if you are spending less than $6.50 a quart for your oil it isn't a actual synthetic oil. Most syn oils on the market Mobile 1, Castro, Valvoline to name a few are all Group 3 petroleum oils being marketed as synthetic oils. Amsoil, Red Line, Motul are all Group 4 (POA based) or Group 5 (Ester based) synthetic oils.

I use Amsoil 0W-30 Series 2000 oil along with their Nano Fiber oil filter. The oil is rated at 35,000 miles or one year and the filter is rated at 25,000 miles or one year. Since I put less than 10,000 a year on the truck I only change the oil and filter once a year. My last car I put 168,000 miles on it and only changing the oil once a year. The engine actually ran better at 168,000 miles than it did when I first got it. Unfortunately everything else but the engine and transmission was falling apart very rapidly.
