hp question
the raiting for the 06 4.7 for the dakota is what, 230hp/290tq and h/o 260hp/310tq? i dont remember if i have h/o or not...ill check tomorrow... how much hp gain do u think could be accomplished with a K&n filter since it breathes a lot better also with a tune. there is an awesome tuner in tulsa Ed Wright. hes been doin it for years and is awesome...he just made an extra 43 hp sae on a 07 stock z06 vette and said this was a very conservitative (sp) tune...he said another 10 hp was definately in the picture but wasnt sure about the pistons in the new vette and since the driver doesnt race it and just wanted more kick, he didnt want to try to push anything...he does amazing work and actually jsut did a job for chip foose. i already have the k&n filter and i can tell it gave me a lil jump, barely noticable, but i really tell it added some mpg. do u think it would be worth it to have my engine tuned? i would like to have more hp or torque. dont necessarly have to have it or need it, just think it would be nice....also would this void my warrenty. if so i wont do it. idk what he charges per hour for a dyno tune
what i dont want is people tellin me to get exhaust or headers ect. i had exhaust on my old truck and loved it but honestly, its kinda nice to have that peace and quite. i dont want to talk about exhaust, or headers, or any of that...just woundering about a tune...like i said, i dont necessarly need it, but its something to think about

the following is my personal experience with my 06.
1. after I bought it I immediately installed a JBA 3" catback single swept side exhaust. After 15 mins of driving I removed it for two reasons. First, it was so loud I couldn't hear myself think, in the truck with the wdws rolled up. Second, power dropped off dramatically. I'll give the system props for fit and installation, it was a breeze.
2. I then tried the K&N CAI for this truck. removed it after 15 mins for the same two reasons above, just not as loud and of course a different kind of loud. Thirdly, the way K&N designed the installation of a sensor (can't remember which one right now) in the intake tube was a joke. I envisioned it falling out while I was driving somewhere with no cell signal.
again, this was my experience. others have had great success.
good luck

I installed a K&N CAI on my truck I thought it killed off some of my low end torque or I should say moved it around,it felt at higher rpms I had a little more there for passing, but from a stop it didn't feel it pulled as hard,so I'm running a Airaid modular tube with a K&N drop in,I doubt if the air temp sensor fell out that it would disable you engine, if you disconnected it the engine would run,as for exhaust I running the stock exhaust minus the big muffler only running thru the resonators, its just loud enough to tell I have a V8,I'd like to go aftermarket but I don't want nothing to loud and plus I can't afford it so it may be awhile before I mess with it.
lol thanks guys...i dont kave k&n cai...i just put in the filter and i can tell it definately breathes better....thanks for the info guys...but like i said...i am not lookin for exhaust or cai or headders ect....im just woundering about a dyno tune....
Night I've heard some members had their PCM custom flashed but these people had all kinds of mods to go along with it.but my part about exhaust was more me agreeing with Glk about some being loud,I guess it's true if it's to loud then you're to old.Hope somebody can give you some advice.
hey thanks ext. and i didnt mean to sound like i didnt appreciate your info bc i do...i used to have exhaust on my v6 ram and it actually sounded really good but i liked it...i have to admit its nice being quiet especially on my long drive from college to home...and leavin my gf's house late lol...idk im just thinkin, if he can pull over 40 hp out of a stock vette, you think i can get a good 15-20 with a tune? it would be nice.... i can tell my truck breathes easier with the k&n filter, my rpms are down a lil and i can tell it doesnt shift quite as fast as it normally had to...i suppose bc its breathin better...which is helpin my mpg...im just throwin around thoughst on a tune
I put in a MagnaFlow muffler on my truck with a single in and dual out and both sides. Sometimes I wish it was louder, but it has a good rumble to it and it's not too loud. I felt some torque and some power just doing that.
Now if you want it quieter in the cab, do what I did and leave a resonator in it under the cab. Then if you think that would be too loud, have the pipes go straight out the back.

I'm going to say yes, a dyno tune would boost your numbers some. They basically see what parameters could be pushed to produce better numbers with you engine or mods on your truck and then flash your computer with those new parameters. It's a custom flash, just more personal, because your truck has to be there. Actually its probably better than mailing your PCM off to have it custom flashed.
I honestly believe you will never gain any significant HP with that stock exhaust. There is just too much restriction. I have both changed exhaust and intake. I have the gibson extreme duals and the kn intake. With out a doubt low end is less but it really revs up better. In my experiance modding every vehicle I own(d) the exhaust was the way to go. You have nice truck, I say enjoy it the way it is with out messing with it. No sence putting an intake on, you will have more air coming in but if you cannot get it out it is a moot point. Also the DAK doesnt have a mass air flow sensor (the vette might). I had my M3 custom flashed, it basically changed the mass air flow, but I dont think the DAK can be flashed like that. I find it hard to believe you can flash a computer and get 40HP out of stock parts. Since the Dak seems to have so many problems (knock on wood mine doest get them) I would leave the computer alone for warranty reasons. I dont think having the computer flashed will void warranty but if you start getting engine light dealer may hit you with cost to reprogram as they will take the easy way out and say with out the computer running program it was designed to they wont be able to determine what has failed. Just my opinion.....
