Default HD radio installed - problems...

I yanked out my factory radio and installed a JVC HD radio so I could finally get some country music, living in Long Island...
The factory radio never had static at all. This new HD radio, that supposedly get better reception over FM, actually seems to be worse.

My question to anyone here who has swapped their radio - have you noticed a change in reception from factory to aftermarket? Could it be something with the factory antenna?

Here's a link to HD radiostaions and their station numbers. ALL radio broadcasts are NOT HD (yet)...So check this list in your area and those are the ones broadcasting in HD....It may well turn out your local CW station does not broadcast in HD?! Most HD radios will initially tune in the analog signal, then if it detects a HD (digital) signal, within 5 or so seconds it'll switch over....You can usually hear some kind of delay or artifact when it switches automatically. You probably will have some sort of LCD display on when you're on an HD signal. BTW, HD radio has NO static....The analog staions do....When it switches over to digital, you will either have it perfectly clear or nothing at all---Digital (like OTA HD TV signals) is all - or - nothing .... perfect or nothing. Good luck to you.

I doubt radio is being forced over to HD by the FCC like TV is. Best bet is to had got sat radio. I know Sirius had 8-10 country stations from old country to new country. XM probably does also. Out of all teh radio stations locally here, we got 1 or 2 that simulcast in HD and both are top 40 stations.

You should have considered satellite radio. Had Sirius wired into the stock radio(w/hard wired FM modulator).Awesome variety of programming including country. I've never listened to regular radio since.

XM hard wired in ...no commercials...plenty of channels, no static. Once you try sattelite will never go back.

Sirius has New Country, Prime Country and Road House...unless you're Willie, Waylon or Chris...there isn't much else for country music.

The radio I installed is compatible for XM or Sirius. It can do either, so in the future I might give it w a whirl. I just figured that if the HD stations are out there, why not try them out. Plus all the music is free and also commercial free. It's just like satellite without the subscription.
It seems my reception problem is due to the area I live in. Other people with satellite have problems too I found out.
