4.7 HO question
Hey all I just joined and posted an intro..
I just purchased a 05 Dakoda Quad with the 4.7High Outputengine and need some questions answered. I'm comming from a 72 chev 3/4 4X4 to this truck so you may understand my lack of tech knowledge in the newer vehicles..
My truck came as a certified used vehicle, and was equipped with a K&N airfilter, round cone shapped with a snorkel sitting off to the passenger side of the engine compartment, the exhaust I cant elaberate on but it has a nice mellow tone to it. I have not a clue if any chip mods or any other modshave been done previously.
I need to know if the HO engine did indeed come equipped with the K&N or did the previous owner swap ot out? can anybody tell me if the picture in the owners manual is accurate to the intake system of the HO engine?
If the K&N was indeed not factory, and sold as a "certifiedused vehicle" will I be looking at a headach (dealer induced)if I have a problem down the road? I am aware of the Moss magnason act and what it says about mods... I have the origional warrenty and sprung for the 10 year 100,000 extended warrenty as I seem to keep vehicles a long time.
Also is there any way I can find out if any other mods have been performed that might give me problems down the road?
Thanks in advance!

RE: 4.7 HO question
dont worry about the filter. if you bring it back to the same dealer for maintance then they will have a record of what was in the truck at time of sale. as far as other mods the only chip thats out right now is the jet chip, which you can planely see connected to the pcm. the air system on the ho is the same as the regular 4.7 big box over throttle body that says magnum ho. if this is there than the person might have just switch the neck and cone if the whole system is gone than, not to worry. also the exhaust might be stock with just a muffler.

Can you tell me if the stock chip is able to compensate for the K&N filter as far as fuel is concerned, or will it run extra lean?
I know it will affectmotorcycles running an K&N where ya have to re-jet or use some type of recalabration device (fuel injection) to keep the air fuel ratio correct.
To answer your question the big black box with Magnum HO is gone its just the tube comming off the throttle body to the filter. The dealership in no way informed me of the modification, I assumed it was stock (I should have known better)
If it came down to the truck is running lean I'd probably spend the money and buy the stock intake box, used of course..

RE: 4.7 HO question
the factory setting will not effect any gas at all. the air cone is just letting it breath better. if anything it will help not hurt.when you start messing with 02 sensors or your iat sensor than that will affect how lean it will.run. i am running 206 cams in my 4.7. needed to get a pcm flash to accomodate the newower. your cams aret over stock so you wont needed anything unless you break into the motor
