I think your going to be way over weight with a car on that heavy trailer. Sell it and buy the correct trailer instead of creating a hazardous condition !

I agree with sdsdsd. Even cutting it down to a flatbed configuration with a vehicle on top you are looking at an accident waiting to happen. Way too much weight. Don't do it.Follow sdsdsd's advice

I'm sorry, but it looks like your Dak is competing in a tractor pull contest with that trailer in those pics. LOL!!

I know that you are going to be changing things around on it but in all reality that trailer is and will always be too heavy for you to do anything with if you are going to be using the Dak to pull it. How heavy is that trailer? I would take if for free and put a decent shake can paint job on it and then sell it. You could probably get enough money from it to buy a decent car trailer that the Dak could pull, with a decent load, without a problem.

That, or why not just add 4 tires in the front.... would that make it, let up on some of the weight on the truck?

This trailer seems more suitable for a Ram 3500 Cummins Diesel with a beefed up suspension. For a Dak it's just insane. Forget it and sell it or regret it.

moving the axles forward will take alot of the weight off the truck, it really aint that heavy my buddy that was with me picked the front end up on it, it also didnt drop the truck enough that it didnt go to the helper springs. the trailer has brakes on it and once I cut alot of the metal off it will only be about half the weight it is now. It just makes it look worse than it is with that gooseneck hitch and me forgeting the key for my hitch so I didnt get to level the trailer out. I pulled it around and it pulls just like it pulles my 4 wheeler trailer with the bike on it, it wasent hard to pull at all even on the hill.

I'm no trailer expert, but common sense tells me that thing is just too big for a Dakota to be pulling. Sure, the engine is strong enough to pull it. Stopping it safely is another issue. I wouldn't want to be on the road with you while you were pulling that thing.

wow...that's a big one. i think your plan makes sense, if you move the axles forward and cut off all that metal. if i'm you, i'd weld a standard hitch to the trailer, and remove the gooseneck...for a few reasons...it would be easier to hook up to and ride level, plus getting rid of the gooseneck deal would probably reduce the weight some. also, if you have a standard hitch, you could use a weight distribution hitch if it's still too heavy, which would really help it tow nicer.

Hey I have the tow package and it came with what looks like a hook up for a brake controller...Is this what it is??
yes, if you have the two package, there is a hookup for a brake controller. i installed one shortly after i got the truck...works great and really didn't take too long to put together.

Are you saying to add another 2 axles to the front of the trailer? If so, then how would you turn without dragging the front tires of the trailer. You would have to make them so that they can flex/steer with the truck. By that time you would have spent enough money to just purchase a new trailer.

If I were you I would still go get the trailer weighed so that you know exactly what you are dealing with. Remember, you could veryeasily add 4,000 pounds to that trailer if you are towing vehicles with it. If that trailer weighs 2,000 pounds (which is very possible) then you won't be able to tow much with it. Like I said though, go and weigh it before you put any work into it so that you know you aren't wasting your time on it. Just my .02.
