Default Request DIY Amp install

I have the 9 speakers w/ sub but it seems underpowered to me plus I have 2 10" subs sitting in my garage that would be nice to use instead of them just taking up space. Before I go tearing apart my 1 week old vehicle wanted to see if someone had done this already and can point me in the right direction.

I'm not sure where the amp is, but I just had the back-half of my truck in pieces today!

I'm so disappointed with the 8-inch sub, and with all that room under the storage hatch I was hoping I can mod up at least a 10-incher.

I was able to get the sub out without any problems. Just go slow and don't pry anything too hard.

The top plastic bumper trim (where the bottom of the lift-gate latches) pops up with a little force. This gives you access to a few more screws to lift up the entire lining to the storage area. Then you can get to the sub and what MIGHT be the amp on the left.

While under there, I saw what appeared to be a junction-box, but it's possible it was actually the amp. I didn't take note because all I wanted access to was the sub.

I've taken the amp out out and reassembled everything, but I'll be putting everything back again tomorrow morning. I will check again to see if that is indeed the amp.

From the dodge web site the amp looks to be on the drive side rear, behind the plastic.

Default Easy!

Ah ha!

You know that bucket underneath your built in flashlight (trunk left)? Lift that out, there is your amp!

Just to expand on this a little more:

I've had the trunk all in pieces for the last 2 days. And I feel that Dodge has left lots of room for expanding your audio system. The sub area and the amp area both have ample room for larger components with little to no modifications necessary.

I am interested in a new amp/sub combo keeping the current head unit and other speakers. If anyone takes the plunge in upgrading I would be excited to know what you get and how it sounds!

I'm thinking you could easily build a custom 10-12inch sub box to replace the current one. And it doesn't have to be pretty because it will just be covered up by the plastic trunk liner.

One more thing: When you remove the trunk liner there is a blue/brown wire attached to it. It unclips easily, but if you don't re-attach this when trying to start, you will get a warning "key not detected". This makes me want to conclude that this is the (or one of the) receiver for the wireless remote.

Hey J thanks for the info, like I said I have all the parts needed to install but I'm gonna let a pro take care of this for me. I wanted to use the 2 10's I have but another option would be a custom box if there is as much room on that side that your saying. I'm favoring this since I also have a lone single 12 that I've been was trying to sell but have been to lazy to do. If I have to settle on a smaller less quality sub I'll just (unfortunately) put the big clunky box in my trunk.

I am actually going to be tackleing this within the next few weeks.. My plan is to build a custom box where the 3d row usually folds into (i have a heat so no 3rd row). It will consist of 2 12's, a 4 channel amp and replacing the front speakers with nicer components. To grab the signal i plan on using this:

Went to the shop for a quote to install the amp kit and install a custom 12" box they quoted me $325 provided that I bring the amp kit, sub, and a hi-lo converter.

In the back right where the storage area is and I plan to mount the amp in that little space under the carpet where that plastic alpine box is at.

The box will be fiberglass and than carpeted to hopefully match the car's interior.
