Default After Market Wheels

Here's some shots of my Dark Charcoal 2011 Citadel fitted with after market 20"x9" American Racing Circuit wheels loaded up with Michelin 275x55 LTX M/S2 tires. I also added black MGP caliper covers. I decided that black instead of red calipur covers would be a better look.

These are an inch wider, and about an inch and a half taller then the OEM wheels. I liked the look of the OEM wheels, but those plastic chrome wheels just had to go, and I can really feel the one inch difference of the new ones.

Thanks Sidewinder9mm! Both the wider wheels with the larger tires make a big difference. I have a place in northern Baja about 20 miles north of Ensenada. Between my village and Ensenada is Baja 1. It's a windy, steep, beautiful drive right along the Pacific coast, but Mexican road building leaves allot to be desired. (For instance: Sometimes the road banks the wrong way in high speed curves.) When the OEM wheels and tires were on I didn't feel comfortable driving at highway speeds, (60 to 70 mph) but now I routinely drive those speeds without any misgivings. It's a very smooth and tight ride.

Looks nice. A few questions:

- how far off is your speedo now using the taller tire?
- what is the part number and cost of the caliper covers? Link?

Observations:

- on a Gen1, those Michelins are the perfect tire
- The new American Racing wheels are very close to the same look as the clads.

Nice mod.

Thanks IndyDurango. Here's the link: http://www.calipercovers.com/
You can have them custom engraved, and it looks like the carbon fiber covers are new. If they had had that when I got mine I would have gone that way.

I think that the larger tire make one or two mph difference on the speedometer. When I got the AM wheels, there wasn't too much to choose from for the 2011 D. But since this wheel was so close to the OEM in looks, it was a no brainer for me. The extra inch of width helped to seal the deal.

I don't want to pop your bubble too hard of your idea that you have increased grip with that "extra" inch of width, BUT on the Citadel the stock wheel is 20x9. So take that for what its worth, it's probably more the tires rather than the same width wheel. It may appear that the wheels are wider because they stick out farther, but that is most likely from the lower offset that makes them stick out further. though....

Thanks dog! I didn't want burst his bubble, but glad you did. Just to set the record straight: OEM wheels and tires are: 20"x 8" - 265/50. I put on 20" x 9" - 275/55, which gives me almost two inches wider then OEM instead of the one inch I incorrectly said in my earlier post. (1 inch = 2.54 cm)

You're really only about an inch wider because of the 9" wheel vs the 8" wheel. The 10mm difference between the 265 and 275 (5mm each side) won't make much difference. My summers on the front are 265's mounted on a 20x9 and they are almost identical to my 275's on 9" wheel.

I do believe you're right mtndog. There really isn't too much difference in the width, but it rides more stable in the twisty's. I actually liked the look of the OEM wheels, but those plastic chrome covered rims just had to go. I'm glad that one of the few rims that fit the 2011 DD looked pretty much OEM.
