Question WTF? Chrome Clad Wheels?

Taking the plunge on Monday and ordering a Citadel with the "Chrome Clad Wheels." Like the looks but just curious--for those of you that have them, what is the durability? Can I just replace the clad after it starts looking a little plastic (hehe)? Always had polished aluminum and loved the look.

Ups/Downs - Should I tell the dealer to put RT wheels on the car? For those that bought after market wheels--saw them. Partial to American racing but concerned about durability-pot holes etc.

Drove a Hemi and love it but in DC and the commute is brutal....sure is awesome tho.

BTW: Looked at Cherokee/Explorer (didnt' like the cockpit)/Highlander (My dad's car) and think the Durango is a fine looking machine.

Cant' wait but need some help on the wheel options.

I have always believed the wheels (and unfortunatly in this case--no hemi) make the appearance of an auto.

Thanks in advance.

Warrior.

No issues with them. We like the look. Hard to tell it is not a true chrome wheel. I guess if the chrome gets damaged it is easy to fix/replace.

R/T wheels on a Citadel? Not so sure it would look right since the Citadel is for "Chrome lovers". The Chrome wheels on the Citadel match the rest of the accents on the D IMO. R/T is a chrome-less monster with a more subdued paint matched look

Up to you tho....

Ha! I was caught by surprise when I learned that the wheels had plastic covers. The good news is that a damaged plastic wheel cover can easily be replaced vs a chromed wheel- as cheesy as it is unnoticeable! LOL!

I'd ask them to swap, get it the way you want it the first time.

I didn't really like those either, part of why we picked a CrewLux
over the Citidel. Well, that and that adding sunroof, tow pkg and
hemi and it was still less.

There is no CrewLux for 2012 so he can't specifically do that.

CrewLux was a one and done deal.

We had chrome clad wheels on our Pacifica. I was initially amazed, since it was a brand new concept back then. However, we had the car for 4 years and the wheels looked brand new the whole time. They were also the easiest wheels to clean that I ever owned. Looking back, I view them as a positive despite my initial skepticism.

That being said, I like the 18" aluminum wheels on my Durango.

I have the factory chrome-clad wheels on my Megacab. They still look new, 6 years and 126,000 miles later.

I was not crazy about the chrome clad wheels either. They are really nice and are made a lot better then hub caps because they fit inside the lip of the wheel.

Makes it a lot easier and much cheaper to replace when you find the curb.

A side note, my brother's wife drives a Ford Edge Limited. They have owned this car for two years. We just found out it too has chrome clad wheels (also 20"). I was explaining about the cheap Durango wheels and knocked on his rims and plastic. So the moral of the story is, don't tell your friends they aren't real and only we will know.
