Default Lemon 2011 Crew

Hey guys I feel like venting a little bit. I bought my 2011 Crew back in April. The problem that the suv is having is that it stays in first gear and the speedometer stays at zero while the car is being driven. For the past 3 weeks it has been in and out the dealer. Matter of fact it's still at the dealership as we speak. The dealership had to have a Chrysler field tech come down from Michigan to come and TRY to fix it because the dealership Head Service Tech doesn't know how to fix it. So far they have replaced different modules to resolve the problem but it still exist. I really like the suv but right now I'm second guessing my purchase due to reliability/durability of Dodge(i.e. Chrysler products). IDK if should get my money back or give Dodge another chance and just have them replace my D with a 2012 model. Decisions.....Decisions.....

If they can't fix it, they will have to buy it back. That's the deal I'd offer them.

that sucks. i tell you, i may never BUY another new vehicle again. i used to lease all the time. then i got the "leasing is such a waist" "it's like renting" etc. etc. i can afford the car payment i have. i look at it like a "way of life". in the end it's situations like your current one (and my last new car which needed paint work from day one) that just confirms i'm making the right decision with going back to leasing (my new car, a cheap 8 or 9k second vehicle i don't mind, but 30-40-50k?? no thank you).

contact a lemon law attorney, it's painless. i went through it with a vehicle I leased (thank god) back in '05 and i never had to even meet him. i received $3500 settlement, kept my vehicle (which they eventually fixed!) all for my troubles with GM.

That really sucks to have to mess with a problem this long. Hopefully they will get it fixed very soon or give you a different one. With all the electronics in cars these days....it's a wonder.

Its all electronically controlled and they should be looking at the transmission, trans controller and the PCM.

Also OP, when you add lines like this, "I'm second guessing my purchase due to reliability/durability of Dodge(i.e. Chrysler products)" you loose credibility. That type of statement is absolutely untrue, is a statement usually wielded by forum trolls, and if you believed that in the first place... why would you ever have spent one thin dime with the company?

IE:
DEALER - "Here, I'm a super salemans so I'm about to talk you into buying this widget you and I both know will break in 1/100th of the time it is supposed last, okay? Will ya? Please?"

darkmanrob85 - "Uhhhh.... sure!"

That's your purchasing normal OP? Doesn't make sense.

Also, did you tell the dealer you had the entire front end off, the lights out, who knows what else to the brand new D before this issue? Or did you leave all material fact that out as non-relevant? Since EVERYTHING is eletronics and you hacked, plugged, un plugged, pinched, shorted, who-knows-what, etc, into all of that based on your other posts, think that electronics contamination would have ANYTHING to do with any sort of the electronics issues now?

Some folks take great exception to threads calling the Durango a lemon especially when all of the material facts are omitted that reflect light on the specific owners situation more so than the vehicle its self.

Was curious about the lemon issue posting since I too own a '11 crew, but have not experienced one problem with mine since owning it this past July. Once I read IndyDurango's comment I searched what Darkmanrob85 posted and read his lengthy post on dismantling the front end of his "new" DD to 'replace' headlights. Yikes. What a process that's got to be riddled with potential problems.

I agree with Indy and hope you offer the whole story to your service folks, unless voiding your warranty is of concern. Posting that you have a possible lemon issue after what you did to your brand new DD is hypocritical. You can do what you want with your $30,000+ vehicle, but don't be calling it a lemon if you are trying to fix what ain't broke and possibly break it in the process. You do claim you are not a mechanic, don't you? I'd suggest you do not have a lemon...good luck getting your problem resolved.

I did tell them that I had a HID kit installed and the head service lead the Chrysler field tech both agreed that would not interfere with the issue that I'm currently having with my D. The reason I why I bought the D was because I liked everything about it (i.e Look/style, the ride, options, etc.). Wouldn't you second guess a purchase that faulted on you? I thought so. So don't try to come in here and try to bash me if you don't know the whole story.....

I'd suggest you get off of the Indy bandwagon. I created that post to help out others who didn't know how to take of the bumper/headlight. And I'm sure I accomplished that. And no I'm not a mechanic, but the ones at the dodge dealership and the chrysler field tech are. So if they can't fix it, then what does that classify my D as...............wait for it..............A LEMON....

I am not on anyone's bandwagon - just agreeing with Indy. I am not going to get into an argument on this site, just stating my opinion here too. IF I disassembled my vehicle and then had some mechanical issues following that event, I'd offer that I had a cause and effect happening that I perhaps caused. If I provided that information to my dealer when I took it in complaining that there is a problem and my DD is a lemon, they might just say I voided my warranty - maybe not. I'd be a bit nervous though that I voided it.

Being the curious sort that I am, would you mind answering the following:

1) Did the problem exist PRIOR to your front end disassembly/reassembly?

2) Did you reveal to the dealer the exact extent of ALL the work you did prior to taking it to the dealer (to help them better diagnose what the issue is)?

They are going through a lot of expense to help figure this thing out...hopefully they can for you. Good luck.
