Thanks for the input folks. V6 or V8, 5/6 or 8 speed, the Durango is a sweet ride.

The five speed (taken from Mercedes) is smoother than my old Lambda platform tranny. Did I mention that I dropped 3 transmissions, 2 driveshafts, and two AC motors in the GM product?

The only thing that the eight speed will give you is a few more miles per gallon. 5 speed is smooth and without hiccups.

You've SEEN gripes about the 5 speed??????? Obviously you don't own one.

LOL. Enjoy the Hemi!
lol mixed? = 99% hwy / 1% cty

Personally, I went with the V6 with the factory tow package. We're avid campers and have haul a 3000lbs trailer plus supplies for 5 every time we go. We've done 8 trips so far to our favourite sites which are anywhere between 2 and 3 hours from home through some pretty hilly stretches.

Popular Mechanics had an article a little while back on 7 SUVs at Silver Lake Dunes and had some pretty positive comments about the D3's capability in the sand.

Your boat is small and either the V8 or V6 will have no problem towing it. The V6 will give you better mpg, but the V8 has more power. But having said that, the difference in the V8 and V6 is not astonishing. This V8 is nice, but not a monster.
