Need some details of the AWD / 4WD
Hi everybody.
I'am Andreas from Germany, and i have a question about the AWD / 4WD system used in the new Dodge Durango.
I drive a Jeep Commander with QuadraDriveII (QDII) 4WD and i'am very satisfied with it, but my kids grow up and so the Commander became a little to small in the 2nd row (legroom) and the cargo volume behind the 3rd row.
And so i'am looking for a larger SUV with 7 seats and found the new Dodge Durango with 5" more wheelbase and 10" more exterior lenght. Best conditions to be the successor of my Commander
But nowhere i found some detailed information about the AWD / 4WD used for the Durango and i'am a little bit spoiled by the QDII used in my Commander
Did anyone of you have some information or could tell me what kind of AWD / 4WD used for the Durango or with which kind of Jeep 4WD systems this is comparable (e.g. QDII, QDI, QuadraTracII, QTI, etc.).
Thanks,
Andreas

I cannot answer your question directly as I have never had a Jeep, but I would recommend that you download the owner's manual from dodge and you will probably find as much information there about the AWD system as there is anywhere else.
OK, thanks for the hint with the OM.
For those whom intrested in that information (source: 2012-Durango-OM-4th.pdf):
3.6l Engine: Single-Speed (Hi-Range), Full-Time 4WD with Brake Traction Control (BTC) - not Off-Road capable
5.7l HEMI Engine: Dual-Speed (Hi- and Low-Range), electronically shifted 4WD with BTC - comparable with the Freedom Drive I used in Jeep Patriot and Comapss Models.
So only the 4WD shipped with the HEMI is suitable for me, but this is no problem - V8 rules
BTW - did someone of you knows if there are export vehicles existing with KMH tachometer instad of miles?

I've read different reports but I think one difference between the AWD on the 6 and the 8, but I could be wrong, is that on the 6, the torque is split 50/50 between front and rear, but on the 8, it's 100% to the rear until slippage is detected.
I have a question on the operation of Durango while in Low Range. .
- Are the front and rear driveshafts locked together at the center transfer case, or
- is it "open diff" ?, and purely Brake Traction Control ? ie. the computer applies brake to any wheel that starts to spin faster than the others.
edit:
"read the manual" haha . . it clearly states in the manual that the driveshafts are locked in low range.
