Vibration in Steering Wheel
Hey Guys,
I have an 11 RT with the same problem since new. Now at 14K miles and four dealer visists later I am on my third set of tires and still shaking. I am convinced its the wheels but Chrysler won't swap them out. I am going to file for a lemon law buyback. Its a shame, we love the truck we just want it to stop shaking????

You'd figure they would want to try that first? Strange.
Hi All, I have the same issue. I can visually see the steering wheel vibrate at speeds. I also had my tires re-balanced about 5x and still have the issue . I am told that this is a normal characteristic of the vehicle which is total BS. Does anyone else who has this vibration have it this bad , where U can see the steering wheel vibrate as if U had warped rotors or is it a slight one. I have just about had it with the vibration - a new car should absolutely not have this . U would think that in 2012 they would understand that a vehicle driving down the road should go straight and not vibrate , this is the fundamentals of driveability. If anyone has had it repaired please let me know what was done. THX
Dod,
If you are not satisfied with the diagnosis from your servicing dealer, feel free to get a second opinion from an another local Dodge Dealership, as another set of eyes and ears may be helpful.
PM me if there is any additional inquiries or assistance you need.
thx , i am told that all the vehicles with 20" wheel have this steering wheel vibration and it is in the wheels. supposedly dodge knows about it and told the dealers to do nothing for now. doe anyone know if this is correct ?
I have a similar issue with steering wheel vibration with my '12 R/T. Had dealer rotate tires and rebalance. Vibration seems worse and is intermittent at highway speeds. After I returned to the dealer to revisit a host of issues including this one, the service advisor chalked it up to the road. I disagree. I worked in the tire industry back in the day and I have a definite rotational vibration associated with the drive train or wheel/tire combo. I have not returned to the dealer yet (which will be the 3rd time for this issue). When I worked for Goodyear I was involved with resolving many vibration issues, especially with high performance radials. We performed a procedure to "match mount" the tire to the rim. This technique involved first removing all the wheel weights and then checking wheel weight requirements. It the tire/ wheel combo required too much weight, then the tire was rotated 180 degrees on the wheel, then rebalanced. In some cases this procedure worked to reduce the amount of wheel weight required to balance the tire. Has anyone tried this procedure with the combination of road force balancing?
Chalk me up as another person with symptoms identical to the OP. Buzzing in the steering wheel regardless of vehicles speed. I have a Hemi crew with 18in wheels with brand new Michelin HP tour latitude tires, not the 20" wheels that alot of you with complaints seem to have. I'm going to see what the dealer says. I'm hoping to bring it in the next few days. We're going to start off with balancing all the tires and doing an alignment. It's frustrating to say the least.
Tell them to balance the tires on the vehicle. That basically simulates the tire/wheel combo spinning on the road. If they don't have this capability then you'll need to go to a reputable tire shop. If that fails, and they'll know it when they do it, then the tires may be out of round (though that's unlikely for a Michellin). Beyond that it could be an outer suspension issue.
Don't let them tell you it's an issue with all these cars because it's not. Tell them you want to test drive a new one to make that excuse go away.

Well it certainly sounds like we all have the same problem and we keep getting the same answers from the dealerships we attend. I guess the question should be has anyone out there who has experienced this problem changed their tires and had the problem go away? Seems to be a lot of us with this problem and dodge is doing little to remedy it. Its like they are waiting for a class action suit. It's bs that we as consumers have to fork out our own money to test new tires that I'm not even sure will work.
