Hemi Towing - Fuel Economy
Hi everyone,
I'm now here. I have not purchased a Durango yet, but am seriously looking at one. I'm downsizing my vehicle and trailer as I moved out to the west coast a few months ago. I'm getting rid of my diesel F-250 and 12,000 lb Toyhauler.
I'm seriously considering the Durango. It has pretty good power and towing capacity. However, I'm really curious to know why kind of towing mileage it gets. If anyone has any info they'd like to share, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Well, I live in the pacific northwest and I have a utility trailer that i hauled through the mountains. Winding up and down through the pass up to 4800 feet and pulling a trailer that peobably weight in at 2500 pounds with load, I averaged about 12MPG with my 5.7 AWD.
I have gotten 14 mpg pulling a Mastercraft boat if I drive easy and keep it between 70 - 75, or I can get 9 if I don't. It pulls the boat remarkably well, and takes no effort on on ramps. I wouldn't expect it to compare to an F250 though.
Just a heads up to those who want to tow (or think about towing in the future- like me)...If you get the factory Tow package on your Durango they put a tranny fluid cooler on the D. Thats a HUGE consideration that makes the $700 package a deal. Think about it- if you some day decide to put a tow kit on a uhaul- it will probably cost a few hundred...And they are not putting a Tranny fluid cooling kit on your beast.
The tranny fluid cooling kit is going to make hauling much less strenuous on the HEMI...
just food for thought.
