WOW you guys are full of nice surprises . Thanks . I just opened the passenger side and it was a bit of a struggle but I open it. I thought I was going to break the cover at first. I still think that is a weird place to put a battery.

But, much better than under the rear seat.


I keep jumper cables, tow strap, and a few survival items in the box under my drivers seat. If I ever get stranded (I take a lot of driving trips, sometimes in the middle of nowhere), at least I have these items......plus, they are completely out of my way now.

There is a YouTube video of when they were doing a press release that shows a Durango cut in two for the most part. The rep from Dodge said it was done for crash standards as batteries to not crumple. FWIW

My guess is it also has something to do with the near perfect 50/50 weight ballence. A >50lb battery in a 5,000lb vehicle is ~1% of the weight.
