Default DDM Tuning HID fogs heat issue

Anyone else notice the housing getting melted by the ddm bulbs? I have the 35w h16 bulbs in 4500k, looks like both sides are starting to show melting above the bulb.

Is the bulb just too hot or what? It's in there in the stock location so not too far up or down.

I have heard numerous stories now of the 2011/12 durango fogs melting with the use of HIDS...the stock 2504 bulb is not a very hot/strong bulb so I am sure the hid bulb even at 35 watts is warmer than the stock bulb therein lies the problem. LED bulbs are another option but they do not provide very much light output, however they do match in color to HID bulbs in your headlights

Theres also 25w HID kits that they've been using in the Camaro/Tahoe for about two years, without issues.
Has anybody heard about issues with both lights, not hooked to a relay, intermittently not coming on?

just looking at both bulbs...oem and HID. The oem halogen bulb is a short, stubby and round glass where the h16 HID bulb is a long, slender glass. may guess is the HID bulb is really too long for the lense and too close to the lense. HID's actually produce less heat than halogen...but with the bulb glass so close to the lense....deformation is bound to happen. Maybe the 25w bulb mentioned above will help. I havent heard of any of the wk2 Jeep guys complain of melted or deformed lenses.

Normally the melting isnt the lense, but the upper rear of the housings.

its just a heat issue, which should be resolved with a cooler running bulb. What wattage are the ones in there now?
