You must have halogen instead of HID low beams. Wonder if half-bright low beam is used for DRL if halogen, and full-bright parking lights if the headlights are HID. Also possible behavior depends on country setting.

i would like to know from the people in the 'i want DRL turned on camp', why do you want them? it doesnt seem to make cars that have them any easier to see during the day, at least not to me.

Please let's keep this a technical discussion instead of having it devolve into the same old debate where neither party will convince the other. In my OP I acknowledge that DRL isn't for everyone.

nothing is devolving, just asked a simple question, if you didnt want to answer it you should have just ignored me, or instead shared any of your reasons for it.

the technical discussion has stalled since it seems like noone else has done this or has the feature to tell you what is installed over the standard equipment.

the 11+ grand cherokee guys disable drl's by popping the hood and finding a small fuse box about 2" x 3" on the left side engine bay just in front of hood strut. Pop the top and there are 4 square relays....remove the two on the right side. maybe you could add those two relays back to activate drl's? ONLY Grand Cherokees with HID's have DRL's in the US by the way
heres a link

Yes, I have the lowly halogens.

First i have halogens but i had my drl's turned on when i purchased the D as part of the deal without charge. They used starscan, they said that its the high beans with just less light intensity. I did it for looks i've always had my drl's on, on prior vehicles.

I need to correct this since I noticed today that
my last observation was wrong. With halogen headlights, the DRL feature doesn't use the low beam...it uses the high beam! I also checked and couldn't find a setting to turn it off.

It's only a law in Canada and some parts of Europe. It's not required in the US, but I believe you do get a small insurance break for having them.

I prefer to just rock the parking lamps with just fog lights.
