Question Switch stuck on – cure?

Hi guys.

I've now put a couple of thousand miles on my new Durango 5.7 Citadel and all the family are very impressed with it. On the de-restricted german roads, 125 mph was effortlessly achieved. We've crossed Europe in comfort.

One small problem has arisen. Late one evening , we came back to the car and I wanted to de-mist the front screen. I pressed the switch and it was soon clear.

However, the switch won't switch off – it seems to be stuck in the pressed-in position and runs all the time (the light remains lit).

Anyone else had this (or the same problem with one of the other, similar switches in the centre console)? Is there an easy cure?

Try to remove the Engine Start button and use your key fob to put your ignition back to the Lock/Off position.

Here is how you remove the Engine Start button:

Insert the metal part of the emergency key under the chrome bezel at the 6 o’clock position and gently pry the button loose.

I hope this helps!

Another option...disconnect the negative battery cable for 3 mins. This should reset it, however, it may not release the button from the on position.

I've still not done anything about this – I'm a bit wary of ending up worse off than before.

Has no-one else ever had one of these little centre panel switches remain stuck in? Is it just me that's so lucky?

Never had a button stick. It is possible that it stuck because it was pushed in at a slight angle. Try to get a small jeweler's flat screwdriver and pop the button back out. There is a spring behind it that should push it back out, but if there is mechanical interference from it being pushed at an angle, you'll have to pop it out.

It's been like this for over three weeks and you haven't taken it to the dealer?

^^^ I was on holiday over a thousand miles away

Also, there are no dealers for the Durango in Switzerland – only firms who import them. The manufacturer's guarantee is also void – but I do have a guarantee that I purchased when I bought the car. As the garage that imported this car is an hour away, I'm not going just for that – it can wait if I can't sort it myself – it's not as if a wheel had fallen off
