Default Info on torque converter upgrade

I spoke to Bill at Paramount Performance and Andre at Edge Racing Converters today about the 545RFE 6-speed trannies behind the 5.7 hemi Durangos.

Basically upgraded converters are very available if you want them. Personally I think the 5.7 Durango is a dog off the line and from my experience at the drag strip I know a converter will make more of a difference than a gear swap (plus right now we don't have a tuning option for a gear swap)

Andre told me he has several customers running higher-stall converters on Dodge Ram trucks with the 545RFE. I read a thread about it at dodge ram forumz and people seemed pretty happy with the swap.

Andre told me that he would suggest 2600 stall for a D that will be towing. For one that won't be towing he said you could go up to 3200 without issue. He said there are plenty of different stator options out there so it is an easy modification.

I don't work for Edge but he said he could do a group buy in October if we got 5 interested folks. Regular price is $525 for the Street Edge Series converter with $475 as the group buy price.

I've run his 3600 stall converter in my '07 Charger SRT8 and it was a night-to-day performance increase. Way more noticeable than a catback or cold air intake or the combo of the two.

Sounds great. Much needed upgrade.

Hi Budoboy, I'm interested. Would love to know if there are before/after numbers available. I guess I can look at the Dodge Ramz forum-but if you have data..even better

I'm potentially interested, but am a little worried about what the experience would be like in traffic. I'm envisioning free-wheeling revs up to 3000 rpm and then "bang" the truck would launch forward. What is the transition like in stop-and-go traffic?

This is the thread I found:

http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=102023

In my personal experience I gained about 3/10th of second in the quarter mile on my Charger going to 3600 stall from 2800 stall. It will really get you moving and I imagine you'd be able to spin your tires from a standstill if you wanted to.

In my experience the transition is not felt at all. You'll only notice revs on hills and only if you have louder exhaust. I had a 2800 stall and literally didn't feel the difference at all in daily driving. The 3600 was more noticeable but liveable. If you are a modding type guy it probably won't bother you at all.

Probably in the $200-500 range for install depending on where you live. Tranny has to be unbolted and dropped down for the swap.

Thank you for the thread. From what I've seen on the web, looks like folks recommend a tranny fluid cooler as well with these. Did you install this on your Charger?
