Default Headlights tilting

Searched the forum, but couldn't find an answer. Had my '12 R/T for a few months, and last weekend I noticed a new thing- headlights were on dim and in auto setting, turned on the key, lights came on, started engine, and the lights swept down, then back up. The beams weren't switching- it was a sweep down, then up. I watched as I drove home, meeting cars, passing street lights, etc., but I couldn't see them move. Again, setting was on dim. What's this about?

That's the auto leveling system calibrating itself. All cars with auto leveling headlamps do this. There is a sensor, usually on the rear suspension, that adjust headlamp level depending on the height suspension travel. If you pull up behind a car a night slowly and pump the brake pedal, you can notice the system slightly adjusting the level as the suspension bounces. Really helps keep the glare below the other drivers window line.

Had no idea- more "stuff" on these things than I need or will ever use, but it is cool to have it all. Thanks for the replies!

This isn't something you "use". It's just to help minimize glare going into other drivers' sight, which is really a good thing since SUV's already sit up so high.
