Default Sway bar end links

Maybe this is a question for another spot, so forgive my rookie-ness (rookie-dom? )
I notice a lot of folks have referenced the sway bar end links as a performance mod. But in looking at the stockers, they seem to be a ball in socket type link which would would be as firm or firmer than any bushing setup. Right? I don't understand how the ball in socket has any give. I do however see the merits of the link being aligned properly through the entire movement of the suspension as the stock ones provide.
Can someone enlighten me please. I want to put suspension mods on, and this seems about the only one at the moment!
Thanks!

Also- anyone have a source for urethane sway bar bushings front and rear?

I just did this mod and am very pleased with the difference! The stock links would be fine if the load was centered, but with the connection points off the axis of the link it does have a decent amount of flex. Heck, even when i was breaking the link nuts loose the links were flexing.

Oh, and yeah I wish someone would make a strut tower brace! That'd make a big difference.

Thx Norge!
I got some Bwoody's in hand. Planning on installing tonight and will let you know how they turn out.
Did you have to drill out hole in control arm as instructions suggest?

I did and really wish they had that info posted prior to ordering. The rear sway bar holes were tight and took some persuading to get in, but worked.
