Default Power train issues

Hi,

I have a 2012 Durango citadel with the HEMI.

After a few days of use I began to notice both loud clunking sounds when changing between park, drive etc. and also some serious vibrations when accelerating between 80-90 kph. I mentioned all this to the dealer who said that there was a fix out there to replace the valve separator (???). This was done a week ago. The clunking sound although still there when changing gear is no where near as bad and the vibrations have all but gone, however...

Firstly I was at an intersection on a busy highway where I had to cross two lanes of traffic, it was also on slight incline with me pointing up hill. There was a big truck coming down, and I had plenty of time to go, but even so I put my foot down hard. There was no response from the car for over 2/3 of second and then the wheels screeched and I was away... This was a little worrying that the car didn't respond more quickly. I used to own a 1st gen Touareg which was also drive by wire and was notoriously slow to respond when hitting the accelerator - but never this bad!

Next I was doing 80kph went to accelerate and got a huge amount of vibration, noise and resonance as the transmission seemed to go into neutral, again this was only momentary but scared me enough to call the dealership.

I also noticed that even with the anti rollback feature turned on (cant remember the proper name for it) it held the car on a hill for about a second and then started rolling back... Did it three times in a row!

My 2005 Durango 4.7 (which we still have) has no transmission noise and accelerates without delay or issue.

Do you think there is still a transmission problem.

Any thoughts?

The forums are no substitute to reading the fine manual (RTFM) supplied by Dodge.

The 'Clunk' is a known issue with the transmission. DodgeCares previously posted the TSB info:

This bulletin involves installing a revised separator plate into the transmission valve body.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with RFE transmissions only
(Sales Codes DFP, DG7, DGQ, or DG1).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Harsh/audible shift from Drive to Neutral predominately with elevated ambient and
transmission and driveline temperatures.


The Hill-Start Assist (anti-rollback) is DESIGNED to only hold the vehicle for 2 seconds before releasing. It is an assistance feature and not a replacement for the driver's foot nor is it an auto-pilot. When on a hill, it gives you time to move from the brake to the gas before releasing; it releases instantly upon throttle input.

As far as the drive-by-wire, if you regularly punch the gas from a stop, then the nannies are what are slowing you. The system ESP/TCS torque-management is designed to prevent you from making jackrabbit starts, but if you keep your foot planted, they eventually relent and you tear away from the stop. A solution to this, which was put forth on here is to turn off the TCS when at a traffic light so that when you stomp the gas you get the full power on demand, but do so at your own risk if you forget to re-enable after you pull away.

I think it would be a good idea for the dealer to take a look at the vehicle to see if the TSB listed above applies to your vehicle and if any other flashes are available to help solve the problems you are experiencing.

Mine does this as well on occasion. Didn't know there was a TSB!

Yeah I didnt know either! Going to get it looked at when I next bring mine in for an oil change

Be ready to get the proverbial " no abnormal noises heard." To mine to dealer on Friday for 8,000 mile service and asked to have this specific problem looked at and that was the diagnosis.

I have the same issue on mine and the dealer last week found the article and ordered the parts. Should be going in this week. Feels like a tractor changing gear after a long drive

I took the car to the dealership last week, they said that the vibration / resonance that I can feel when accelerating at speed was the transmission going through its 'learning phase' again after the tsb was done. Anyone heard of this?
