Default "Tightening" sounds while braking

The dealer is trying to tell me that this sounds is normal and it just doesn't make sense.

When I break sharply I hear a “tightening” sounds similar to when you try to over tighten a screw. The dealer assured that this was normal and resulted from some kind of counter balancing that occurs when you break sharply. I could accept that when it just occurred once when breaking but now the truck is starting to give multiple of these “knocks” when I break sharply.

The dealer is telling me that this is normal, but it sounds horrible and I have trouble accepting that this is normal. Does anybody else experience this?

It sounds like it could be the ABS keeping the wheels from locking up, this is normal, expecially if you are breaking hard (sharply) Try breaking hard on ice, snow or any slick surface and you will here the breaks make a griding noise.

I'm familiar with what ABS feels like and this doesn't seem like it. The breaking maybe be sharp but it's not at speeds that would induce skidding or even on slippery surface. Most vehicles I've had in the past the ABS also tends to "push back" on the brake peddle and I'm not feeling this.

Do you have the adaptive cruise control? My brake pedal makes the same sound and it is normal; it is a creaking sound that is heard in the cabin as you depress the pedal.

The reason I ask about the ACC, is because if you activate it and enter into a situation where IT applies the braking force, you will hear the same sound as the ACC hydraulic braking force pushes back against the pedal.

The sound is 'normal' for the D even though you have never heard it in a vehicle before. Mine has done it since Day 1 in March 2011.

Please update.

I do have the ACC, I'll have to go and try this and see if it's the same sound.

Thanks for the help.

So I tested out the ACC and it is not the same sound. In fact the ACC barelly makes any sound when braking.

The sound I'm hearing actually comes in multiple "shots", usually 2 or 3 shots of it when I break.
