Default 2011 Durango Crew Airbag Light Turns on in High Heat

I have been experiencing an issue where my airbag lightturns on in 2011 Durango Crew (V8) when the temperature inside the vehicle getsextremely hot. It only happens duringthe summer when the car would be baking in the sun. When I start the Durango, the airbag lightwill stay on until the temperature cools down and will then go off. I have taken it to the dealer multiple timesand they have replaced a sensor in one of the pillars as well as the mainharness but I still have the issue. Thecode does not seem to store in the computer but I was able to get it to thedealer with the light on once and the code was something along the line of “Lostcommunication with satellite sensor”.

Unfortunately, troubleshooting has been put on hold now thatwe are in the colder months of the north east but I anticipate it willresurface in a few months. Have any ofyou experienced this issue?

I appreciate any guidance or insight.

Jmdeh,

Welcome to the forum. I found one case the dealer may want to take a look at if the issue appears again. It lists water intrusion but perhaps high heat=high humidity=moisture? Or perhaps the connection is just loose? Anyway it may be worth a look by the dealership.

Case Number: S1208000133
Release Date: 03/30/2012

Symptom/Vehicle Issue:
Air Bag Lamp On, DTC U0170 Lost Communication With Up Front Satellite Sensor
Diagnosis:
Condition may be intermittent or active at the time of testing.
Repair Procedure:
Inspect the C138 connector, it has been reported that some connectors either have not been
connected and or have had water intrusion issues. Clean and secure as needed to repair. One
reported case of the harness being pinched under the center console. Inspect only as needed.

Thank you for the information. I will have the dealer take a look at this next time I am in.

As expected the problem is back. Surprisingly, my dealership has given me a loaner until they can resolve the problem. If anyone has any additional insight to offer now is a great time to share.

Thanks!

It's gotta be a sensor. Did you ask about all the current TSB's and software updates when you were at the dealer?
