Default Rear DVD Player

Our Durango 2013 is equipped with a rear DVD player and 2 wireless headphones. But we have three kids. Is there any way to set up the DVD player so at it plays out loud, like the radio system?

If you have the factory installed system, then go to "Disc" on the stereo and it should play out of the speakers. You can also get another set of headphones off of eBay for pretty cheap (you can get the full set with remote.)

Sure. The default is usually the radio. Try the following:

1) Insert Disc
2) Push MENU hard button on right
3) Select REAR VES soft button on screen
4) Select 1 - soft button, then select DISC soft button onscreen

This should give you DVD audio through the radio.

As a side note, if you want to listen to the radio/cd/sat while others listen to the DVD through the headphones, in 4 above:

Select 1 - soft button, then select Radio/Sat whatever
Select 2 - soft button, then select Disc.

Now you can hear the radio and the DVD audio plays through headphones.

Hope that helps.

What is the best media storage options for kids shows and movies with the Rear DVD system?

Can you play movies off a thumb drive, instead of carrying a stack of DVD's? I know the iphone or ipod will work too, but I don't have an ipod and don't want to use the phone. If you burn several shows/movies to a blank disc will the system play without a problem? Or is a stack of DVD's the easiest option?

You will have trouble copying DVD information onto a new disc unless you have a cracking device. And if you are successful I'm not sure if the player is coded to not play them either. The movie industry did a much better job of this than the music industry.

As for streaming, I've not been able to get my AUX input (phone) to play through the RES, only the main speakers.

And to correct another post, the "1" and "2" settings on the RES differentiate the two rear channels that are accessed independently from the headphones via a button on them. One kid can be listening to music while another listens to the movie. If you want the movie through the main speakers you need to select DVD from the main radio screen (not Menu-RES).

What really bothers me is that from RES you can't control what music from the HDD the kids can listen to. It simply goes through every song on the HDD in order. I would like to know if anyone has figured this out.

I do not have an overhead, but we have a Swagger Wagon too with built in DVD which kids ride in most times. I bought an IPAD holder for R/T headrest - This one
Amazon.com: Gripdaddy v2ARM iPad Headrest Mount: Computers & Accessories Amazon.com: Gripdaddy v2ARM iPad Headrest Mount: Computers & Accessories

I copy all the kids movies when we get em and then load onto IPAD or ASUS TRANSFORMER. I have a long Aux Cable I use and this does the trick. Nothing as bad as loading DVDs back and forth all the time and having the kids ruining them swapping them in and out. Also player I use has a "lock" feature so kids cant touch screen when its playing, works a treat.

If you have an overhead mount with USB access you should be able to play movies from it, but would need to research your player to see what movies it plays as some only like certain formats, MP4/DVI/WMV/ MPV etc. I have a portable DVD player too and I had to convert my AVI movies on a usb for this player to read them, always something with technology these days.
Good Luck!!
