Default Towing a Travel Trailer

Is anyone towing a travel trailer with a Durango? We have a 23ft TT(Ameri-Lite) - with a dry weight 3950lbs. I'm thinking about either purchasing a new 2014 or used 2012. Right now I'm leasing a Dodge Ram Crew Cab - love the truck but its just a little too big. Just wondering what your set up is besides a tow package, V8/V6, etc... ? Thanks for your input.

I tow a 5,000lb Airstream with my Citadel/tow package/hemi. WD hitch with sway control, of course.

Crafty> I have a 2012 V6. I don't tow anything terribly heavy, but even empty I regret getting the V6. Go for the V8 if you expect to do a lot of towing or like acceleration.

Thanks. Yes, I'm thinking the V8 for sure.

I have a 4100lb(dry) TT that we use the Durango to tow. My wife did not want a pickup and likes the SUV better so we chose the Durango (V8 and AWD) for its size(smaller feel around town) and the upscale feel it had. We looked at a lot of different SUVs and picking the Durango was pretty easy. We live in AZ and tow that trailer up some good sized mountain roads camping. It pulls easily on all but the steepest of grades. I would say we are about 5300 lbs, maybe a tad over fully loaded down. I do use a WDH w/ sway control. You will get a TON of sway w/out it, just fyi.

My only complaint is that I have a black R/T and ended up going down a few miles of graded forest roads recently and ended up nicking up my lower rocker panels. Its my fault for going so far on an unimproved road but I know some vehicles would not have been effected as they have running boards and mud flaps(Armada, Tahoe etc). So my solution next time to so put some blue painters tape on them IF I end up doing that again, I really dont want one of those bigger vehicles so its all about compromises. Just know the Durangos do not offer much protection against that sort of thing. Good luck!
