I was very surprised to see about a 1/2" depth of oil in the catch can after 4 months / 1,300 miles since installation. The majority of my trips are short (4 miles round trip) with occasional longer trips and highway driving. I added about 8 fl-oz to bring the oil level just below the max on the dip stick.

Is there some kind of separator in the PCV cavity that would send some of the oil back to the oil pan or does it all get sucked into the intake/cylinders?

NOPE. Without a catch can - everything you caught would have been dumped (in vapor form) into the intake manifold. Some would have been burned and some would have condensed back into liquid where it could sit in the intake and just generally foul up the place.

There's no real harm, but if we can catch it, why not?

I see a catch can in my future. My garage is on an incline and when I started up this morning there was smoke. My wife freaked out until I explained that this was a thing and she doesn't mind me spending the money a catch can now.

I'm not happy about it though and it seems enough people have been complaining about it that you would think it is something they would have addressed by now to stop complaints or service calls about it.

Chrysler knows all about the startup smoking and also the smoking while running parked on an incline. They are going to do nothing about it since they consider this to be a normal function with their vehicles. I have been told this three times by Corporate employees.

I am still currently getting the smoking while running and parked on an incline. While not as bad as before the new oil pan, vehicle system flash and now the catch can, it still smokes! I have 20,000 on my 2013 R/T Bought it June 2013.

100% UNACCEPTABLE.

Thank God for lemon laws! Let the games begin!

There has to be a fix for this, all Durango RT's aren't having the same problem, mine doesn't, therefore there must be a solution

I've got a 2012 SXT AWD and I just noticed this happening. I do not park on an incline/decline either. It does not happen on each start (not even the first start of the day)
