Temperature question ...
Always do my own work. Super easy. I did a write up on it. Search for 180 thermostat install. If you have trouble or questions let me know and I'll find the link for you.
Nice write up, I might have to do that at some point. In the mean time .. back at the dealership AGAIN for another check engine light. This would make trip number 6 I believe since I bought the car brand new in May. Good grief, my bimmer had less issues than this.
Wow . 6 times! That's crazy. Log everything my friend.
I have all the paperwork for each visit .. so yeah I am keeping track for sure.
Here is a timeline of my issues.
1) Mis-fire in cylinder 3 - They did an ECU reflash
2) mis-fire again - They replaced the injector and stuff
3) mis-fire again - They moved the injectors around .. to rule out that cylinder 3 is not the issue - Issue does not come back.
4) Overheated on the freeway - they state that I had a bad radiator cap - but after replacing I noticed the temperature moving quite a bit .. was told this was "NORMAL"
5) Bring it in for service (oil change) and show a picture of the temp above half way ... turns out bad thermostat
6) A week later check engine light again, cylinder mis-fire in 3 again. So now ... the fact that it has happened again in 3 ... they are doing a deeper check to see if it is something mechanical.
7) After saying the fixed it by replacing all the coilpacks on that side of the engine, I got the check engine light again for the same thing not even 2 hours after picking up the car.
They didn't call me back yesterday evening nor today so far, so my guess is they are still trying to figure it out. I honestly think there is something wrong ... I can smell coolant every day when I start it up .. that doesn't seem normal to me. Also the coolant level was down to min ...
Anyway ... even with the mis-fires it didn't run bad, it ran like a champ .. you just can't use MDS nor cruise control so its a pain in the ****.
I wonder what qualifies as a lemon .. is it the "same" issue more than once etc? or that they have your car for an extended period of time? Having this many issues since May sucks.
Thanks!

Steel, check your states lemon law they can differ from the federal law that requires manufacturers to refund the cost of the vehicle if it requires 4 repairs or more that reflect safety or vehicle out of use status. It does seem that the dealer is making a good effort to determine your misfire issue. It's very odd that you smell coolant. Maybe right after system maintenance but not before. I'm not going to speculate but since they have already ruled out fuel and spark. It's possibly a cracked head or gasket that may be allowing coolant to enter the chamber under certain conditions causing a misfire. If it's small enough it may not show up on a compression check. But if the coolant level is low then it's going somewhere.
If it gets to that point of needing an new engine, I'd rather get a different Durango ... lol. Or a different car all together. I just cracked 10k miles from brand new .. this is my first "domestic" vehicle in a long time ... can't say that I have been overly impressed so far lol.

thanks for all the replies peeps! I hope everyone has a safe Thanksgiving Tomorrow!
