Engine Stumble at Freeway Speeds
After researching all my options and reading many reviews in this forum, I ordered the Hypertech Interceptor from AutoAnything for $265 on black Friday. Also, based on recommendations in the Forum, I ordered a Volant cold air intake with dry filter.
The Hypertech arrived yesterday and I installed it last night. Fired up the Durango and no lights or codes, so all is good. As soon as I pulled out of my neighborhood, the electronic throttle control light and the check engine light both lit and the car was running really funky. Uh oh. Went back to the house and plugged in my OBDII reader to find codes P2127 and P2138, both pointing to the electronic throttle. Pulled the Hypertech throttle module, and re-started the car. The electronic throttle control light went out, but I had to drive the car and start/stop it several times before the check engine light went out. For some reason, my OBDII reader would not reset the codes. Oh well, car was running good. More on that in a minute.
I called Hypertech this morning and was told they have had a few random failures of their throttle control module. He is express shipping me a new one with a postage paid return package for the defective one.
First impressions of the Hypertech minus the throttle module are good. The car definitely pulls stronger and smoother through the upper mid range and the power comes on around 3500 rpm instead of the 4200 before install. It pulls strong past 5000 rpm. The engine still feels like it is stumbling at 1500 rpm on the freeway, so the Hypertech didn't take care of that. I just think lower gearing is the only thing that will fix that or maybe a more sophisticated tune.
It will be curious what it will feel like when I add the throttle control module. I suspect it will just increase throttle response (more throttle for the same throttle pedal movement) which will give the perception of more power. Maybe there will be a more significant change as the Hypertech tech guy told me I'm only getting half the benefit without the throttle module.
My Volant CAI is arriving tomorrow. By early next week, I should have the full Hypertech kit and the CAI installed and will post another review.
In summary, the Hypertech did not cure all the ills of the gas-mileage inspired tune Dodge did to this fine engine. But, it made it better than it was.

What gas u running? I have mine Hypertech out, haven't had a chance to install it after a date at the dealer. Let my daughters boyfriend drive it and he noticed it right away and I didn't tell him it was off.
MIKEon22's, my tank is still filled with 89 octane gas. I plan to fill it with 92 at the next fill-up. I'm sure it's very noticeable after removing the Hypertech, especially with both the engine module and throttle module installed. I'm looking forward to getting the throttle module. If I had it to do over again, I'd definitely spend the $265 even with the slight hassle on the throttle control module.
Red Rhino--does your engine stumble if you put the trans in "6th"? Reason I ask is I feel the same thing sometimes and it appears on mine to be related to the cylinder deactivation. Putting it in "6" stops the stumbling. Of course I get lousier mileage too.
